This is the French and Lyon goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. He is a very instrumental character at Lyon and,of course for the French national team. He was born in Nice,in the south of the country on 26th of December 1986. He used to play for the national youth squad in his early youth years and developed a great talent during his teenage years. He was recognized by a lot a great managers during his teenage years and regarded as a bright and prosperous player for the coming future. Even though Lloris played for Nice,other clubs were very much interested in the talented goalie. Teams like AC Milan and Tottenham were in the running to sign him but lost out to a very persuasive Lyon who were also interested. He successfully joined Lyon after the departure of the long-standing veteran goalie Grégory Coupet. He joined for 8.5 million euros and made his first team at the start of the 2008/2009 league season. He was immediately given the number 1 jersey. He made his debut against Toulouse,beating them 3-0 at Lyon’s home stadium Le Stade Gerland. A great start to the Frenchman’s career. Lloris was named goalkeeper of the year and also named on the team of the year in France.

The full name of Lyon is Olympique Lyonnais. They play in the highest division in French football in Ligue 1. They compete with the likes of other big clubs in France like Marseille,Paris-Saint-Germain,Montpellier and Bordeaux every year for the title. Lyon are the richest club in French football having streamed in an annual revenue of 139.5 million euros in 2008/2009. Lyon’s nickname is ”Les Gones” which means ”The Kids” in the regional dialect of Arpitan. The club’s president is Jean-Michel Aulas. The club’s manager is Rémi Garde. Lyon have participated in the UEFA Champions League 12 times and it was in the 2008/2009 season they reached the Semi-Finals of the successful competition. There would be many noticeabe players at the clubs like Bafétimbi Gomis,Lisandro Lopez,Michel Bastos and Hugo Lloris who I’ve mentioned already. These players are still currently playing with Lyon and are making a massive influence within the club too. Lyon had many world-class former players in the past with the likes of Juninho Pernambucano,Florent Malouda,Michael Essien,Eric Abidal and Karim Benzema helping out with the success of the football. Lyon won their first league title in 2002 and after that won 7 consecutive titles creating a new record at the club and a new record in French football. Lyon are one of the most successful clubs in French and European football.

My favourite player for Lyon would be Bafétimbi Gomis. He is a striker and is the one who scores the most goals at the club. Gomis moved to Lyon in 2009 from fellow french side Saint-Etienne in an attempt to be recognized in European football. He certainly was greatly recognized as he moved to Lyon,Saint-Etienne’s greatest rivalries in Ligue 1. The local derby between the two clubs is known as the Derby du Rhône. Before he made his ambitious move to Lyon,Gomis had already made his debut for the french national side in 2008 while he was with Saint-Etienne. In doing so,Gomis scored twice. Gomis was the second ever player to have scored on his debut. The great Zinédine Zidane was the only player before then to have scored on his debut for France. At this point, Gomis was known internationally. Still, Gomis is known for his goal-hunting skills as he can be a nightmare for any defender in his way,he is a formidable striker.
There is a long standing history with Lyon football club. It was formed under the multisports club Lyon Olympique Universitaires which was formed in 1896 as Racing Club de Lyon. Following numerous internal disagreements regarding the cohabitation of amateurs and professionals within the job,then-manager of the club Félix Louot and his entourage contemplated forming their own club. On 3rd August 1950,Louot’s plans came to fruition when Olympique Lyonnais was officially founded by Dr. Albert Trillat and numerous others. The club’s very first manager was Oscar Heisserer and on26th of August 1950,played it’s very first game defeating CA Paris-Charenton 3-0 in front of 3,000 fans. In just the club’s second year of existence,Lyon was crowned champions of division two moving up to the first division. The club maintained it’s first place for the remainder of the decade,excluding a year’s stint in the second division for the 1953-1954 season.
